The Moon Over High Toned from Earth

Internet is not only needed on Earth . In space exploration , satellite data communications with the spacecraft using the Internet network .

The difference is, if the Internet connection on the mainland sometimes jammed , in a space designed super- fast Internet connection , more smoothly minimal interference , compared to connections on Earth .

Launch the Daily Mail , Wednesday, February 19, 2014 , the U.S. space agency collaboration ( NASA ) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology ( MIT ) have tested the connection strong data on spacecraft orbiting the Moon . The key is the use of laser technology .

In October last year , a team of researchers used lasers to transfer data from the aircraft to the Moon orbiting the Earth . At that time , data transfer is quite astonishing , 622 MB per second ( 4976 Mbps ) .

If the views are still not up to the capacity of Giga Bytes , but considering the distance of the Moon to the Earth's orbit , it is quite remarkable .

In fact , the communication space that uses radio frequency current , is mentioned dozens of times more slow than the laser communication test .

" It works like a gangbuster , very quickly . System is doing what it needs , " said Don Boroson , design team leader of the Lunar Laser Communications Demonstration ( LLCD ) Lincoln Lab , when presenting the results at SPIE Photonics West conference .

For several months , NASA and the Lincoln Lab engineers to test the first time bidirectional laser tissue between the Moon and Earth . The mission of this trial is a step LLCD NASA to switch from radio frequency communications to the laser in space .

more reliably

In addition to transfer HD video reliably , laser communications technology also allows humans to control robots or machines remotely . Perform tasks including mining or construction of structures on the Moon .

" The purpose of this trial is LLCD validate this technology and build trust , so that future missions can consider using this technology , " said Don Cornwell , Manager LLCD .

Laser communications technology is considered more secure and reliable against interference or jamming ( jamming ) .

If LLCD mission success , NASA has prepared an advanced mission
Laser Communications Relay Demonstration ( LCRD ) , which is scheduled for launch in 2017 .

LCRD planned to run for five years it aims to examine the extent to which the reliability of laser communications technology .

LLCD trial over LADEE spacecraft NASA robotic mission will run for 100 days with 30 days LADEE stages trips to the moon , followed LLCD operations for the next 30 days after arriving in lunar orbit .

LLCD primary mission is to send hundreds of millions of bits of data per second from the Moon to the Earth , it is equivalent to the transmission of data over 100 HD TV channels simultaneously. This mission will also test the capability of receiving data LLCD .

On the mainland are the main terminal , NASA's White Sands Complex in New Mexico , which will receive and transmit signals LLCD .( see also: lomba burung kicauan )

The terminal will be supported by two alternative stations , namely NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California and the station belongs to European Space Agency ( ESA ) in Tenerife Island , Spain .
